Today's whine list

I'm home sick. Again. With Day 2 of a sinus headache that refuses to leave me alone. I've taken the last cold-and-sinus pill with pseudoephedrine in the house, and it's long since worn off. I have a box of phenylephrine, and it does sweet fuck-all for me. (I have yet to try doubling up on the dosage; since I'll be home all day, I could give it a shot.) I was supposed to go to Brady's funeral this evening after work (and hopefully see _duncan there), but the pain is mostly centered over one eye, and I'm not about to drive that far in that condition.

murphymom, when did you first start getting cluster headaches?

The pain has subsided to the point where I can think about eating, at least; once I've done that and gridlore gets back from his new-job physical, I'll head over to RiteAid and see if they've got any pseudo hiding behind the counter.

*sends gentle hugs*I wish I had advice, but for the most part I can only stop those headaches by taking things that just knock me out. Well, temporarily stop.

I had the worst sinus problems and would be laid out by sinusitis, sinus migraines and lots of sinus infections. Finally had a doctor suggest it could be allergy related and prescribed 'Nasarel' - and have had almost all sinus-related problems go away.

[Nasarel is a steroid nasal spray that I use 2x day during pollen seasons & 1x day otherwise. It can be taken indefinately & has no weird side effects - for me at least.]

It is possible that the spray action of squirting stuff up sinuses accounts for half the help, since a spritz washes out pollens - but I have been so very healthy and sinus-pain-free that I recommend trying it, if you can. And if it helps you, then we can both be happy thereby. ^_^

What have you done?
What have you done for the headache? I get those type of headaches a lot. I use a hot pad over the affected eye/sinus area. I used to take advil/pseudoephedrine and that helped a lot. But I am not allowed to take either now.

Also, while I am grateful for the sunshine, it does mean that pollen will do its happy dance.

Get well soon!

Re: What have you done?
I hadn't thought about hot compresses; this is the first time I've ever had symptoms persist so long. Usually a combination of medication and sleep is all I need.

And yeah, on my abortive bustrip this morning (I started going to work and gave up at my transfer point) we were talking about just how AWFUL the allergy season is going to be this year.

Hope you're feeling better today, too!

Re: What have you done?
Two things always work for me:

1) Naproxen Sulfide (now available OTC)
2) Steam

Re: What have you done?
i'm going to have to agree with iceblink. a hot compress would be good. i've been having similar migraines in my left eyebrow since wednesday last week. every day at 9am without fail i get them. i take excedrin migraine medicine and that seems to fend it off for a while. by the late afternoon it's gone completely. i thought it was just me for a while there. tomorrow i'm going to PP to see if it's hormonal and maybe get on pills. hopefully you and i can both put this to bed quickly so we can get on with life. 'cos live sux when you can't open your eyes to see. too bad we can't just take out our eyes and clean them off if that's the problem ^_^

Another thing to try is just plain saline nasal spray, till you can get a prescription. As another poster said, if it's allergies, getting the pollen washed out helps a LOT.

*huggles* Hope you're feeling better real soon. Headaches like that totally suck.
